PTA Programs

These wonderfully enriching programs, events, and opportunities for ECC students and families are made possible by the PTA.  The wide variety of programs enhances your child’s education, creativity, and exposure to various learning experiences.   If your child is interested in any of these programs, please contact the VP of Programs for information.  If you are a parent and would like to contribute to any of these programs, please contact VP of Volunteers.  

Art Ed

This invaluable program encourages children to find inspiration and express their creativity through visual and hands-on activities.  Parent volunteers act as docents by teaching art lessons to students inside the classroom.  Art history, principles of technique, as well as self expression are taught using a variety of media (including Deep Space Sparkle lessons, clay, watercolor, and pastels).  Program runs year round.Volunteers are needed to help out with sprucing up planters, pots and garden beds around campus, including Community Gardening Days. Flexible time commitment. Choice of time slots. Throughout the year

Everyone A Reader

Students needing extra reading practice meet with trained reading buddies to improve fluency, confidence, and comprehension.  1st – 3rd grade students are chosen by their teachers to receive extra reading practice.  Program runs year round.Volunteers are needed to set up, assist students and serve as cashiers for the annual book fair.  Proceeds from sales benefit our media center. Choice of shifts. Flexible time commitment. Sept

Math 24

Students in 3rd – 6th grade can hone their math skills by playing the Math 24 game during lunch recess one day a week.  The game is a unique mathematics teaching tool that engages students and teaches them the relationship between numbers through a game.  Knowing the answer is always 24 encourages the students to focus on problem solving, use critical thinking, and pattern sensing in a fun way! Program runs year round.

 

Odyssey of the Mind

This is an international educational program designed to provide creative problem solving opportunities for students, while promoting a fun learning environment!  Through the writing of original scripts, the creation of costumes, props, scenery, and technical elements, teams of students work together to produce incredible solutions to creative problems while thinking beyond the box!  Students with talents in many areas find a unique opportunity to showcase their gifts in:

  • Script writing, costume creation, music, dance, visual arts, props and scenery construction

  • Engineering

  • Problem solving

  • Leadership

  • Critical thinking

 

Teams present their solutions at a regional competition, with the possibility of going on to the state and world levels!  OOTM is open to 2nd – 6th graders who are in good standing. Program runs late Sept/early Oct through Feb/March. Applications are due in September
