Dear ECC Families,
We are well into our first week and the start up has been stellar! The collaboration between teachers, office staff, volunteers and parents has helped to make everyone feel comfortable and ready for another year.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Friday, 8-22-14 so that our teachers can meet and collaborate with other EUSD teachers.
Here is a little tidbit about reading that may encourage your young ones, or older ones, to read more!
Student “A” reads 20 minutes each day= 3,600 minutes in a school year
Student “B” reads 5 minutes each day=900 minutes in a school year
Student “C” reads 1 minute each day= 180 minutes in a school year
By the end of 6th grade:
Student “A” will have read = 60 whole school days and will be in the 90th percentile for reading comprehension
Student “B” will have read=only 12 whole school days, will be in the 50th percentile for reading comprehension (let’s not talk about Student “C”).
Which student would you expect to have better vocabulary and be more successful in school…..and in life?
See you all at Back to School Night next week,
Carrie Brown
Principal
